Sea Turtle Ecology & Monitoring

All seven species of sea turtles are currently listed as endangered — some with populations reduced by up to 98%. This course focuses on understanding their ecology, behavior, and the threats they face in today’s oceans.

You’ll learn how to identify individual turtles using photo identification techniques and contribute valuable data to global conservation efforts. We are privileged to study both Green turtles and Hawksbill turtles in the Gili Matra Marine Park, often referred to as the “turtle capital of the world.”

With turtles commonly seen on almost every dive, the Gili Islands provide an exceptional setting for learning, observation, and meaningful conservation work.
